Introduction

The Children and Families Commission of Orange County supports organizations that provide health, education and child development services to children and their families, prenatal to age five. Our goal is to support services that allow a children to grow up great—healthy—strong—and learning.

We receive funds from the 1998 Proposition 10 tobacco tax initiative. In 2007, the Commission spent $45.3 million to fund Orange County service organizations.

Summary: What Can We Do in One Year?

  • Serve over 102,000 children and 104,000 family members
  • Provide 67,000 health screens or well-child check-ups
  • Supply almost 50,000 home visits to parents and caregivers
  • Screen almost 40,000 children for developmental milestones
  • Distribute books to over 28,000 children at Reach Out and Read sites in pediatric offices and at community events
  • Provide more than 14,000 shelter-bed nights to pregnant women, mothers and young children
  • Supply 1.3 million class hours to children in early education programs
  • Connect over 14,500 children to a medical home
