Commission Grantee Letters Oppose New Budget

Letters from MOMS signal the beginning of a flood of responses opposing the Governor’s budget proposal, released December 31st. MOMS (Maternal Outreach Management System), is a grantee of the Commission and a nonprofit organization offering health care coordination, education, and access to community services to Orange County families in need. Like many of the Commission’s grantees, the proposed budget cuts may have adverse consequences on MOMS’ service capacity.

Governor’s FY 2009-10 Budget Proposal Would Divert Proposition 10 Funds

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger released his proposed FY 09/10 budget on New Year’s Eve to address the $41.6 billion deficit in the state budget. The proposal included the elimination of First 5 California (the state level Prop 10 commission) and a 50% reduction in funds to county commissions. Continue to press release >>

O.C. Supervisor Bill Campbell Applauds Commission’s Fiscal Practices

In a letter to the editor of the OC Register, Supervisor Campbell commends the fiscal responsibility of the Children and Families Commission. Campbell notes that the Commission, funded by declining revenue from the tax on tobacco, is both prudent and forward-looking in its budget practices and suggests that perhaps the state budget could benefit from similar financial management.
