A children's advocate of many years, Crystal Kochendorfer was elected to the Capistrano Unified School District Board of Directors in 1988 and served as its president, vice president and clerk. She has also been a member and president of the Capistrano Laguna Beach Regional Occupational Program governing board.

Ms. Kochendorfer has been involved in volunteer activities for many years. She has been active in the Girls Club of Laguna, the Niguel Children's Center, the Special Olympics and the United Way. She has also been a volunteer for youth sports, the National Charity League and the South Coast YMCA child care committee.

Her years of volunteerism earned her the Marian Bergerson Award for outstanding school board and community service, the PTA Honorary Service Award, and the Association of California School Administrators' Award for legislative action.

Ms. Kochendorfer is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a degree in sociology and earned her teaching credential from the University of California, Irvine where she also did graduate work in social psychology. She lives with her husband, Paul, in Dana Point and is the mother of two grown children.
